The Study of hope for the futures and tendency to planning (Character Strengths) of the Individuals Living in Disadvantaged Neighborhoods of kerman city: New Insights for Research and Policy Making

Abstract
Character strengths is one of the most important aspects of well-being which affect the motivations and activities of the individuals in approaching success and achievement. The present research aims to study the character strengths of the individuals living in disadvantaged neighborhoods. The concept(construction) is measured in two aspects: hope for the futures and tendency to planning.The present research is a survey in which multi-stage cluster sampling has been used. The sample includes 802 individuals (higher than 18 years old), living in disadvantaged neighborhoods(404 individuals) and advantaged neighborhoods(400 individuals) of Kerman. Moreover, to compare the hope in the future of residents of the disadvantaged neighborhoods and the national sample, the findings of the national project of measuring the social capital (1994) have been used. According to the research findings, the hope in the future of the residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods is significantly less than national average. Also the findings show that the level of character strengths of the residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods in the two aspects of hope in the future and tendency to planning in life are lower than the residents of the advantaged neighborhoods. Moreover, according to the findings the character strengths of in the disadvantaged neighborhoods are different and statistically meaningful.The study of the differences in the three disadvantaged neighborhoods shows that the character strengths of the residents are correlated with education, income, security, social disorder and trust and with accumulative indexes of the above mentioned factors except the recent one(trust) in the local level. At last, it is necessary to mention that in the extra local level, the dependent variable is related to some factors such as concentrated poverty, social isolation, formalization, the business atmosphere and the economical circumstance.
